Illustrating Women's Rights in the Dominican Republic
In this commissioned work, I was asked to represent the issue of the decriminalization of abortion in the Dominican Republic, where abortion is not legal in any circumstance, even if the life of the pregnant woman is in danger, the pregnancy is not viable or is the result of rape. 1/3 of the deaths of gestating peopleĀ are due to clandestine abortions.

The work had to represent a quote from speaker Elizabeth Vargas in a panel about women's right to choose.Ā

Using the style of a victorian call card, for their use of symbolism, I represented the Dominican republic through the Cigua palmera (its national bird) the rose of bayahibe (national flower) and the symbols of its shield, the laurel and the palm.
